Hello! My name is Aspen Hazel, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, National Certified Counselor, and soon-to-be Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. Additionally, I am a Teaching Assistant at Colorado Christian University and the Site Team Lead here at 316 Counseling Center.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in December 2015 with a minor in Women and Ethnic Studies from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. In December 2019, I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University. I have been working hands-on with clients since 2018, and one of the best parts about being a counselor is listening to clients' life stories. I believe that most of us can share intimate aspects of our lives with another person when we feel safe and accepted. It is my goal in life & as a counselor to extend empathy to everyone I meet and to resource them with trauma-informed tools that can help them through any situation in life.
My therapeutic approach includes Solution-Focused Therapy, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing. I have experience working with an array of clients. I pride myself on being able to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. However, I have gained a lot of experience working with teens aged 12-17, women of all ages, and clients struggling with grief, anxiety, body image, and trauma. Additionally, I have always been passionate about breaking the mental health stigma in minority communities and have done much advocacy work in the black and local church communities. It is important to me that all of my clients have a space where they can be advocated for and encouraged to take their mental health seriously.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling with my family and friends and exploring all the yummy places to eat in Dallas! My husband and I have been together for over eight years and married for over six years. We moved from Colorado Springs, CO January of 2021 to Dallas, TX. After many years of trying to have a baby, we got pregnant as soon as we moved here and are now honored to be the parents of a beautiful baby girl.
