Howdy, my name is Abbie Short, and I am working towards completing a Master of Science in Counseling, with an emphasis on play therapy, from Southern Methodist University. I received a degree in psychology from Texas A&M, where my love for people and learning combined, leading me to pursue a career as a counselor. In my graduate program, I have received training to counsel children, teens, couples, and adults and specialized training in play and activity therapy. Before joining 316 Counseling Center, I provided counseling services at SMU’s Center for Family Counseling, where I primarily worked with children and adolescents.

I believe that people are self-determined, creative, and capable of change. And that counseling, when grounded in trust and respect, is a place of powerful change. As a counselor, I hope to create a warm, empathetic environment that encourages self-exploration and growth.

I am a Texas native living In Dallas with my husband and our yellow lab. I enjoy various creative outlets such as painting, sewing, and interior design in my free time. As a lifelong learner, I highly value the experience of taking up new creative challenges.
